     The star bit, with its four cutting edges, is ideal for drilling slanting formations, straightening crooked holes and drilling up iron left in the hole. It is more difficult to dress that a regular bit but pays off by having the additional cutting edges. Its full size body aids in keeping the hole straight.

Changing the sand-line hitch from the bailer to jar bumper, or using the sand line for some other purpose which requires the hitch to be removed from the bailer, usually causes delay and loss of time. The bailer link is constructed with a sliding sleeve that opens and closes an opening on the side of the link. In a vertical position on the sand line, the sleeve closes this opening and prevents the bailer from jumping off in the hole.
