RAMPP safety pattern drive
clamps, Figure No. 390 answer the need for a safe and efficient
tool for the driving of pipe through drift type formations. This
clamp is safe to use, whether you are driving 6” or 30”, and will
stand up under the hardest blows. A set of (4) slips is utilized. To
start the first joint of pipe, we can furnish round slips to grip the
body of the stem or drill bar. Light driving can only be done with
the round slips. After the first joint is in or clearance is obtained
for the tool bit, then the flat slips for the top squares are used.
When drilling or cleaning out is necessary, remove the nuts and
rubbers, pick up the tools a few inches and take out the slips.
Replace the auxiliary ring over the bolts and proceed to drill. The
body will rest on top of the drive head. There are no projections or
sharp corners to foul the drilling cable. When driving is resumed,
insert the slips, replace the auxiliary ring on top of the slips, drop
on the rubbers, washers and tighten the nuts with the wrench
furnished. It is NOT necessary to remove these clamps from he string
of tools after each driving operation. Leave them on the drive head.
When the tools are removed from the pipe, they will pick up the clamps
and be out of the way when another joint is set up. |

Light Pattern (Heavy pattern
has 6 bolts) |
|
The heavy pattern and the light pattern (shown) are constructed almost
alike. The metal parts are all forged steel and heat treated. There
are no castings.
This clamp eliminates all the delay, expense and danger common in the
use of the two piece bolted type. The clamp remains tight eliminating
re-tightening of large bolts high on a mast.
The picture above represents the assembled clamp, whether light or
heavy pattern, fastened to the top squares of the stem or drill bar.
It is resting on a drive head inserted in the collar.
